At Nairobi, the organization behind the statue ‘In the Name of God’ later removed the crucifix from the statue in response to conservative religious criticism that religious symbols were being used for political purposes and, the group behind the statue claims, to refocus attention onto the issue of contraception (AIDOH 2007). The apparent reification of the many complex issues that the statue embodied, in response to significant contention, gives disturbing insight into how a strategy of convergence deals with diversity. It appears that forum strategy tends to facilitate convergence between like-minded groups while also folding in or creatively dislocating contention.
